Susan W. Wesmiller

Principal Investigator

Sue Wesmiller is the proud Principal Investigator of the very successful TINV study, and she says she owes the success to the fabulous study team! She is a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, where she completed her BSN, MSN, and Ph.D. in the School of Nursing. She is a National Institutes of Nursing Research Summer Genetics Institute (SGI) alum, an incredible experience that 10 years later, she still cherishes; for the many friendships and colleagues that have flourished from that month spent together, but mostly because the SGI provided her a strong foundation from which she has built a program of research in the genomics of treatment-induced symptoms, especially nausea and vomiting (TINV) experienced by women with breast cancer.

Her academic responsibilities include the undergraduate and graduate Genetics Courses in the School of Nursing. She is also the advisor for the Nursing Student Association, which is a 240-member strong group that is active in both state (Student Nurses of Pennsylvania) and national (National Student Nurses Association) activities.

Sue is a committed member of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics (ISONG) where she has served as the chair of the Research Committee, the Congress Planning Committee and recently was elected as President-Elect for 2020-2021. She is also an active member of the Oncology Nurses Society, recently serving on the Research Priorities Task Force for 2020.

When not working, Sue loves to spend time with her 7 grandchildren at the beach, gardening, reading, and traveling. She is an avid Pitt sports fan, missing few Pitt soccer, football, or basketball games!
